Our Lady of Prompt Succor Statue

Hand-Carved Wood | 13 Inches Tall

Bring a powerful American Marian devotion into your home with this beautifully crafted 13-inch wood carved statue of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, a title of the Blessed Virgin Mary cherished especially in New Orleans and throughout Louisiana.

This statue depicts Mary holding the Child Jesus, symbolizing her swift and loving intercession in times of need. Hand-carved from wood with reverent detail, it is ideal for home prayer spaces, parish settings, offices, or as a meaningful Catholic gift.

A Devotion Rooted in Prompt Help

The devotion to Our Lady of Prompt Succor dates back to the early 1800s, when French Ursuline nuns prayed for Mary’s quick assistance in saving their struggling New Orleans convent. Their prayers were answered “promptly,” giving rise to this unique Marian title.

The original statue arrived in New Orleans in 1810 and soon became associated with miraculous protection—most notably during the Great Fire of 1812, when shifting winds spared the Ursuline Convent, and during the Battle of New Orleans (1815), when prayers before the statue were followed by an unexpected American victory.

In gratitude, an annual Mass of Thanksgiving on January 8 has been celebrated ever since.

Today, she is especially invoked for protection during emergencies, including hurricanes, fires, and moments requiring urgent help.
